The church is beautiful. Can I visit the inside of the church out of hours?
Yes you can, the church would love to show you around as they are very proud of the beautiful and historical building. Contact the church via this website by emailing nicola@iwadevillage.co.uk with your telephone number and the church will give you a call to arrange. The church also has open days every 2nd Saturday of the month from 10 to 2 with refreshments and sale of home-baked produce.
How old are the church bells?
The bells that hang in the Tower have been dated to the Twelfth Century by Mr George Elphick and are said to be the oldest pair in the country. In 1992 after being silent for many years they were taken down, restored by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, London and rehung by the Kent County Association of Change Ringers. The work was funded by donations.
When does the rest of the church date back to?
All Saint's has a chequered history and according to 'A Short Architectural History by John E.Vigar 1989', dates as follows:
  • The Tower and its door to the Nave date back to the Thirteenth Century.
  • The present Nave, in particular the central window date back to the Fourteenth Century.
  • The South-East Window, Font, Memorial Brass and Rood Screen date back to the Fifteenth Century.
  • The South Aisle and Chancel date back to the Sixteenth Century.
  • The Royal Arms dates back to the Eighteenth Century.
  • The Present Porch, floors, most windows and pews date back to the Nineteenth Century.
  • The roof can be dated at 2005!
The leaflet 'A Short Architectural History by John E.Vigar 1989' contains more detail about the history of the church and can be obtained from church or by emailing nicola@iwadevillage.co.uk.
